Jefferson Spirits, Blind Tiger Medicine Room is an ode to the Prohibition Era where clandestine establishments thrived as hubs of whispers and outright rebellion against the laws of the prohibition. In dimly lit, Jazz-filled spaces, the American Spirit of Freedom shone brightly.
In speakeasies around the country, those who preferred their social cocktails without government interference found a way. Some paid to see attractions like a “Blind Tiger” and were rewarded with “free” cocktails, cleverly skirting the laws against the “sale” of spirits. Others sought out their local physicians who could prescribe “Medicinal Whiskey,” known as “Spiritus Fermenti.” With prescriptions in hand, they would slyly hand them to a complicit and willing pharmacist, who by default became the busiest bartenders of Prohibition.
